Transform Your Treatments with Gua Sha

Posted by Sarah Kinsler-Holloway on

Gua sha is an amazing technique that I believe every esthetician should know. Aside from it's therapeutic effects (increases blood circulation, removes toxins and promotes tissue regeneration), it can instantly change the shape of someone's face; giving a lifting and tightening effect.

Lucky for us, there are numerous how-to videos on the internet showing how to perform this ancient alternative chinese therapy; once you get the hang of it, it's relatively easy!

Our Gua Sha stones are made from Bian Stone, which are deeply rooted in Chinese medicine. On being heated, Bian was thought to be able to facilitate energy circulation along the main and collateral channels and improve overall circulation.

According to a study on Researchgate, "It is known that Bian Stone therapy mainly takes advantage of far-infrared radiation. This is to say that the Bian Stone when being heated in hot water, or by fire, basking or electricity, would slowly emit far-infrared rays with intensity suitable to the human body for therapeutic purposes."

It's important to note that all materials can release infrared rays, and so it's important to choose materials that are advantageous to our health.
The author concludes that Bian stone, "is capable of channeling meridians, stimulating blood activity, dissipating blood satis and regulating blood circulation in human body, which owes mainly to its excellent thermal emission capability"

In addition to the healing properties of Bian, each Gua Sha tool has had Reiki intended upon it. Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique, and many believe Reiki practitioners are able to infuse healing energy into objects, such as stones.

Gua Sha Tips

  • Use a cavicide wipe to clean
  • Put in towel cabby to get a little warm, and to amplify it's healing abilities
  • Use very light pressure, work slowly and methodically
  • Use on other parts of the body, like the arms
We promise you, and your clients will love our Bian Stone Gua Sha! Each stone is thoughtfully wrapped in a velvet envelope and set into a black box for safe keeping (and for retail!)
