O'Melon's Hydro Cool is a 4 in 1 device that has hydro-dermabrasion, microcurrent, cryo with iontophoresis, and nano injection. It's Korean technology that delivers results.
We get asked a lot of questions about this machine, so I thought I'd dive into the ins and outs of the Hydro Cool, including protocols, which can be seen below.
But first, here is a video on how to set up your Hydro Cool
Aqua Peel Function
The Aqua Peel function aka hydroderm, uses a patented vortex to simultaneously infuse, extract, and exfoliate the skin. The machine has three compartments (bottles) which can be filled with just about any solution of your choice. However, of course I have to recommend our Reset Clinical line of hydra serums.
There are two different settings you will have to get familiar with when using the Aqua Peel mode. First, choosing which solution you'll be using, which is as easy as a click of a button, and second, the level of suction.
For those with sensitive skin, impaired barriers, or broken capillaries, we recommend using the lowest suction.
There are also five different tips that come with the machine. Two small, two med/large, and a clear cap. The small tip should be used for those with more sensitive skin, or when you want to really clean around the nose. The med/large tip provides a little more suction, and is great for larger areas on the face, or skin that is really congested. The clear tip is used to cap off the hose when in cleaning mode.
The microcurrent function uses low frequency waves to stimulates muscles, tightening the skin, and enabling better penetration of products.
It is recommended that this be done towards the end of the facial, after serums.
Here is a helpful diagram on where to use microcurrent, and in which direction.
Tips: Always work from origin to insertion, and make sure you take your time.
The more time you take during this step the better results you will achieve. We recommend 10 to 14 minutes.
Microcurrent Specs: 14±1V, M:20±1V, H:26±1V
- Pacemaker or other implanted electronic devices.
- Pregnancy (client or esthetician)
- Metal plates or pins in the application area.
- Under a physician's care for a disorder, illness, disease, or injury.
Cryo with Iontophoresis
Maybe one of my favorite modalities of the Hydro Cool is the cryo function with iontophoresis.
Iontophoresis works by using an electrical current to help move substances (product) through the skin. It's a great way to encourage product penetration.
Cryo has so many benefits, and it's definitely a staple in my treatment room. It reduces inflammation, tightens and brightens the skin, and increases blood flow which will leave your client with glowing skin.
I will often use this function with any one of O'Melon's sheet masks.
To use you'll want to make sure you're holding the grounder, which is a small metal bar. This is how iontophoresis will occur.
- Avoid treatment in clients with suspected or diagnosed heart problems or epilepsy.
- Avoid treatment in areas exhibiting potentially malignant lesions or acute localized infections or over swollen, broken, or inflamed areas.
- Pregnancy (client or esthetician)
You will need to refill your Hydro Cool machine every so often for the Cryo function. You can watch a demo of how to do so here
The Aqua Injection uses pressure to break down an ampoule of your choice into nano-sized particles, giving it the ability to penetrate deep into the skin. O'Melon has a number of ampoules that can be used depending on the needs of your client's skin. You can check them out here.
Simply attach the ampoule onto the end of the spray gun, and hold the trigger to release.
We recommend spraying very close to the skin, with almost the tip of the injection gun touching the face. Use your other hand to rub the ampoule into the skin.
You can also use it further from the skin, to deliver a refreshing mist to the skin.
